Thank you for your understanding.
Eight houses within one. Select a collection, or scroll on — every design follows in order, plate by plate.
In the 1920s, artisans took maki-e — the lacquer art of temples and heirloom boxes — and laid it upon a fountain pen. That pen became Namiki. A century later, the technique and the spirit are unchanged.
Every Namiki is painted freehand — no transfers, no shortcuts. Brush, gold powder, charcoal and months of patience, in the hands of a single artisan of the Kokkokai, the guild founded by the company's own masters.
Natural urushi has been used in Japan for millennia. It cures to a deep, durable lustre that does not fade with use — it warms, and comes to fit the hand that writes with it.
Gold powder is sown onto wet lacquer and polished flush with the surface. Flat, graphic, luminous — the foundation of the art.
The design is buried beneath further coats of black lacquer, then patiently ground back with charcoal until the image rises from the depth.
The motif is built up in relief before gilding, so light and shadow travel across it as the pen turns in the hand.
Slivers of mother-of-pearl and abalone are inlaid into the lacquer — the shifting blues and greens of a night sky or a river.
The pattern is incised into cured lacquer with a chisel, and gold is pressed into the cuts. A line, once carved, cannot be taken back.
Namiki is not a shelf you browse. Each piece is located, confirmed and quoted for you personally.
Tell us the plate number, the nib grade you write with, and where in the world you are. A message on Instagram is enough — no account, no form, no obligation.
We confirm the piece with our partners in Japan and reply with availability, the all-in price in JPY or USD, and the expected timeline. Older and retired designs are searched for on request.
Payment by secure invoice. The pen leaves Tokyo in its original paulownia or lacquered presentation box, fully insured and tracked, customs documents prepared.
Every pen is new and purchased through authorised Japanese channels, with its maker's papers and original packaging.
Enquiries are handled privately by one person. Nothing is published, listed or shared.
Fully insured express shipping from Tokyo, with tracking from the moment it leaves our hands.
